This might not be the solution you're looking for, but it's possible to insert tables in the form of LaTex. Unfortunately only built-in packages seem to work, I couldn't get "table" or "tabular" so you're very limited in terms of formatting.
Thanks, you're 100% correct - and that was my first thought too. You can get a very rudimentary table working, but it doesn't load correctly on mobile devices. If Substack had full support for all Latex tags, that would be even more perfect for minimalistic tables.
Thanks for this. I was searching for a solution and this came up! I didn't even know about Datawrapper - what a great resource. Appreciate you taking the time to explain.
Hey! Yes, they don’t hide it per se, but I find it weird that there’s no “insert table”/“insert chart” button in the post editor. I’m guessing they’re working on an internal solution and don’t want to be coupled too strongly to Datawrapper, so it’s neither hidden nor promoted too strongly.
Is this on Chrome? If not Chrome - try doing it in Chrome. If still fails, ensure it's updated. If updated or still fails, try incognito mode -- or open the dev console to clear cookies.
Thanks so much, super helpful for a substack newbie. I followed your steps above but it didn’t actually show the chart in my substack post, only showed the link through to data wrapper - any idea what I’m doing wrong?
I'm also a fan of Datawrapper, but I'm running into an issue where my charts and tables aren't updating correctly in the Substack app. They look fine in the browser, but the app seems to be showing older versions.
Ok so the app does convert the charts into images - and I think that’s why they’re not being updated. I’m guessing you’ll have to clone and insert new tables every single time you make a change to get them to update inside the app.
UGH so complicated. I just want simple tables.... this is too many steps for an old person.
Let me know if you need help figuring this out, happy to record a little demo video if that helps.

Example:
\begin{array}{c c}
\textbf{Measurement outcome} & \textbf{Expression} \\
\hline
00 & \alpha |0\rangle + \beta|1\rangle \\
01 & \alpha |1\rangle + \beta|0\rangle \\
10 & \alpha |0\rangle - \beta|1\rangle \\
11 & \alpha |1\rangle - \beta|0\rangle \\
\end{array}

wonderful find. Thank you
There actually is an article on the Substack support page by the way:

Hi Nikita! Great points. I hope you're right, it would be great to have some tables to work with!
Really helpful, thank you!
Thanks a lot for sharing this. I was just looking for this only. I appreciate your post.
tried to insert a table with datawrapper and substack keeps erroring :/

Latest Brfave. Hmmm oh well
Has anyone figured out how to insert a table and have within that table clickable links?
I did not -- if you do, let me know!
Is Datawrapper the only app that can Embed tables into Susbtack?
The free version is limited
As of Apr 2025 - yes, only one
Very helpful explainer on how to use Datawrapper for gorgeous charts. Great for info nerds like me.

It only works on Desktop. If you're already on Desktop, try a different browser.
oh cool! do we know a list of all substack embeds?
I've added an update to this post listing all the "secret" embeds (not actually secret, just scattered across their documentation)
I'm also a fan of Datawrapper, but I'm running into an issue where my charts and tables aren't updating correctly in the Substack app. They look fine in the browser, but the app seems to be showing older versions.
Have you experienced this at all?
Here's a link to my page so you can see what I mean: https://vittainsight.substack.com/p/vitta-100k-portfolio
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!"
Its paywalled
Got it! Please subscribe, and I'll grant you access. Thanks for responding!
Sorry can’t do that. If you remove paywall I’ll take a look but I won’t subscribe
No problem at all! I really appreciate you taking the time to check it out. I've made this page public so you can review it. Thanks again! https://vittainsight.substack.com/p/vitta-100k-investment-journey

Appreciate your inputs!
¡Me funcionó! Gracias.
